Hey Jakey,
Happy day-after-Groundhog Day. Daddy and I thought we'd celebrate by taking you for your 12-month well-baby visit. We were both trying to guess what you would weigh this time around. Daddy said 19 lbs. and I said, oh, 21--AT LEAST. We were both wrong. Sigh. You're a hair less than 18 lbs. What a tiny baby you are. Dr. Stevenson said to try and fatten you up with some extra calories this month, and come back to see her on March 10th. Dr. Stevenson made us feel bad about you. She said at 12 months you should be saying "momma" and "dada" and "bye-bye."
Maybe B has it right, and I'm the one who has it all wrong. B thinks that doctors are a bunch of hooey, and that all they want to do is push unnecessary vaccinations and medicines. Her 2-1/2 year old hasn't seen a doctor in two years, and has not had one vaccination. I guess she's going to home-school, because she can't get him into school without proof of vaccinations. B told me last week that if you know your son is okay, all a doctor is going to do is make you worry. Okay, so I know you're okay, but now I'm worried. Whereas, if I HADN'T takn you to the doctor, I'd still feel just as fine as I did this morning. B takes her son to get reiki'd and have his chi adjusted and all that new age shit. Maybe your interests would be better served if I got you rolfed and stuffed some crystals up your butt.
Love ya, ya tiny 'tard!

First babies are tough because we read SO much into what they say. Jake will start talking when he is ready. Just relax and have fun with him!
B. is too far the other extreme. I think kids need to have their well baby check-ups and definitely their vaccinations. If every parent felt the same way he did (and thought vaccinations unnecessary) we would still be watching our children did of Whooping Cough and other preventable diseases.
B is pretty extreme. It's hard to re-hash the same ol' conversations with her about vaccinations and such. She thinks doctors are the devil.
