To sleep, perchance to ... get some shit done

Hey kiddos,

Your daddy abandoned us this weekend to spend some time up in Reno, see a show, and generally just muck about. He was gone Friday and Saturday, and so we were left to our own devices.

My device: keep you kids asleep and out of it as much as possible. Not that I usually have much to do with it; you guys mainly sleep whenever and wherever the hell you please.

I'd been dreading your dad's little trip for days now, as I have never, ever spent the night alone with either one of you, much less *both* of you. But the two of you cooperated with me quite well, and spent a good deal of time asleep.

I managed to do laundry, vacuum, scour the house for dirty dishes and got those done. Napped a bit myself, and caught up on some Tivo.

And when you guys were awake, you were quite amiable, and kept the meltdowns to a minimum. Except for watching "Over the Hedge" more times than I cared for, for the most part, we kept the TVs and computers turned off, which daddy has a real hard time doing.

I realized that the care required for each of you is completely separate from the other, and to wholly attend to the needs of one of you is to more or less ignore the other's. So when Wavy needs to be fed, I'm pretty much rooted to the spot and can't do much more than tousle your hair, Jake, or push you away with my foot. And when I'm on the floor or outside keeping Jake entertained, Wavy, you're fending for yourself in your bouncy chair or in your carseat (yes, your carseat is considered baby furniture in our household...). Babywearing! some would cry. Get real, says me.

You both fell asleep at an unheard of 8:30 pm, and I was free to heat up an easy dinner, read some magazines and do some more cleaning. Amazing.

Next week is my turn, and I get to spend some time in "the big city," see a show (Del McCoury! Front row at the Nugget!) and hopefully see some friends. I won't make an overnighter out of it, though, cuz I get twitchy and nervous when I hit the 9 or 10-hour mark without you.

Thank you both for being the well-behaved, sweet little angels that I lie and tell everyone that you are. Ha.

Love you, good night.

I am so jealous...our kids seem to hate the sleep. I had to spend half an hour with baby girl licking my face before she finally decided that she didn't need to be awake. And don't let me start about the fun of daylight saving time and babies and sleep.

Oh, I forgot: they do sleep when grandma and grandpa are babysitting. Dammit.

You are the blog queen...how are you getting so many posts? I'm not complaining, I'm enjoying your posts, but I am a bit jealous!
