I got my two new nursing bras in the mail today. They make me feel like this:
All pointy. Not blonde and sexpot-like. Not "Like a Virgin." Just... pointy.
Your grandma went home yesterday. I can finally walk around the house in the nuuuuude again if I want to. Or rummage around in the kitchen in the middle of the night without waking her up on the living room couch.
It was great to be able to get out of the house on a daily basis while she was here and "run errands," (go to the movies or go to the casino for a Monte Cristo) and she loved to buy us massive amounts of groceries at Costco. And, as much as I hate to admit it, she really is good with the two of you, even if she *does* obsess about how gassy the both of you are.
I read somewhere that kids take massive leaps in development whenever grandparents come to visit. I firmly believe that. Jake, you're saying your ABC's, counting to 10, mastering your umpteen sets of flash cards, just -- well, making up for lost time, it seems.
I cried a little bit the other night, when we were hanging out on the bed, playing with your alphabet cookie cutters, and you were handing them to me, telling me which each one was.
It seems like somewhere along the way, you had your Helen Keller/Annie Sullivan moment at the water pump, and I wasn't even there to see it.
You've made the connection. All the words you've been storing up in your cute little head are starting to tumble out now in a meaningful way.
Speaking of which, you went to your first day at your new school last Thursday on your birthday. No problems so far. Meaning, no meltdowns, no acting out. You just kinda -- slipped in and made yourself at home. From what I can tell. Hopefully you'll be able to tell me about it yourself pretty soon.

You and your Cars cake and your runny nose
Well, it's late at night/morning, and My So-Called Life is on deep cable. Every episode makes me nostalgic for some aspect of my mis-spent youth. I'm old enough to be Angela's mom, and that makes me want to tear my hair out.
Love you both, sleep tight.
