"Shopaholic and Baby"

Hey Wavy,

No, I haven't bought the new Sophie Kinsella book, but it's about the only thing I *haven't* bought in the past few days.

I've been on an unbridled spending spree since last week. Experts would probably say I'm trying to fill some unmet need. Um, YEAH, of course I am. I freely admit it.

Here's the damage so far:

Veddy niiiiice. DVDs that I'll never have time to watch. Good thing I saw them when they were in the theater.

Lucinda Williams, Lily Allen, Arcade Fire and Son Volt. Yeah, there are cheaper ways of "procuring" albums these days, but you don't get the adrenaline high of waving a credit card at a ditzy cashier dressed in a blue and yellow polo shirt.

Deep Storm is the first novel I've read cover-to-cover since you were born. I read in the wee hours this weekend while you were asleep, and even stole a couple chapters while sitting on the floor in the bathroom. The flavor-of-the-month diet book has gotten a couple of cursory glances so far. Me. On a diet. A compelling work of fiction, I must say. And I pre-ordered Harry Potter on amazon.

And this. This is my fourth attempt at trying to find the perfect iPod cover.

Sweetie, hopefully you will grow up with the ability to soothe yourself with a jog in the park or volunteer work. Or a visit with your dear old mother. But -- if ever you find yourself with a hankerin' to drop some dollrz on baubles because you've had a bad day, come pick me up first.

Love you, sleep tight.
