It's "Dump Run" Saturday!
Photos by Jakob. This is us at Taco John's today, taking advantage of the A/C and the endless fountain drinks. On the right, I am (unsuccessfully) trying to teach you how to wink. Tres sexy, non?
Hey kids,
We have a fine family tradition 'round this household. It's called "Le Dump Run," wherein I choose one of you two children to accompany me to "Le Towne Dump" to deposit a truckload of garbage. I can't take you both, cuz the truck's a two-seater, so whichever one of you is the most deserving that day (read: least whiney) gets to ride shotgun.
It's an enviable honor, as whoever gets to go is usually treated to lunch and/or Starbux afterwards, and it's not unheard of to maybe go shopping or to the park.
Today was your turn, Jake, and we wound up at Taco John's for lunch. We spent a good hour and a half, at least, because TJ's has some awesome air conditioning, and is very, very light in the clientele department. As in -- I don't know how they stay in business, as they are always nearly empty when we stop by.
I really don't know where the day went. After we came home, I took a three-hour nap, woke up in time for daddy's quesadillas, we sat in the back yard for a while, and now here I am at 2 in the morning, working my way through a couple week's worth of Interventions on Tivo.
I'm also currently re-reading a book I haven't picked up since '93 or so. It's called "Tempting Fate" by Laurie Alberts. God-awful title, but a beautiful, heartbreaking book about troubled people making stupid decisions, then redemption at the end. Really, isn't that the recipe for any good book?
It's weird re-reading the book that I was reading way-back-when, when your daddy and I were troubled people making stupid decisions of our own. But... redemption in the end.
Extra-special hugs for both of you! Love you.
